A customer recently brought this PlayStation 5 to our Southampton repair shop because it was turning on but showing no picture on the television.
A damaged HDMI port is one of the most common causes of a PS5 displaying “No Signal”. However, after opening and inspecting this console, we discovered that the damage went beyond the HDMI port itself.
Damaged HDMI Port and Missing Motherboard Pads
The HDMI port had previously been damaged, and several of the small solder pads and connections underneath it were missing from the motherboard. These pads connect the HDMI port to the console’s main board, so simply fitting another port would not have fixed the problem.
Our technician carefully removed the damaged port and inspected the surrounding tracks under a microscope. The missing connections then had to be rebuilt individually using our in-house microsoldering equipment.
New PS5 HDMI Port Installed
Once the missing pads and tracks had been repaired, we installed and securely soldered a new HDMI port onto the motherboard.
The console also contained a considerable amount of dust, so we cleaned the fan and internal areas while it was open. This helps the cooling system work efficiently and reduces the risk of overheating.
After reassembling the PS5, we tested its HDMI output and other functions. The picture was restored successfully, and the console was ready to go back to another happy customer.
